Tetris Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

As any prominent awards ceremony draws close, one notices an outcry to include fresh award types to honor unsung work and fill the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of gaming, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, and you can find room for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier game development, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
